Samuel Adams came to Bronte in 1855 with his son, Jeremiah.  With $800 in hand from his successful business in Maryland, Adams opened a blacksmith shop.

He invented the equipment used for "stonehooking" - lifting flat stones from the bottom of the lake. Adams was at one time the biggest landowner in Bronte.

'Wonderful generosity': Fareshare meeting increased demand for services in Oakville

Despite a rise in usage, Fare Share Food Bank Oakville said the community has come through.
“Fareshare is deeply grateful for the overwhelming support the citizens of Oakville have provided over the years and particularly in these difficult times,” said Fare Share director Averil Wiley. “Due to the wonderful generosity, Fare Share has been able to meet the increased demand for our services.”
Among the donations received leading up to the holidays was a cheque for $2,000 from Intelligent Office in Oakville.
